Do you want to be fit, but some days do not have the time or the mood for an intensive workout? Similar benefits can also be provided by a hot bath, according to a new study conducted by the British University of Loughborough.
As the researchers found, volunteers cycling at moderate speed for an hour burned the same number of calories as those who simply relaxed in a bath of water at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Also, the two groups of participants managed to lower their blood sugar which means a better metabolism.
According to experts, at very high or very low temperatures, the heart and the circulatory system works at its full, which may explain the beneficial effect of warm water on our body. This does not mean, of course, that a bath can replace the exercise, but it will be good for you, especially at the end of a busy day, when the last thing you want to do is find yourself in a gym with lots of people and loud music.
